Player names

It is a good idea to make the player names show in the BridgeTabs because the players will understand that something is wrong when another name than their own appears on the display. So, you should have the option Show names enabled in Game settings at all times.

The BridgeTabs need to know what name belongs to which player. There are two cases to consider:
i. The start positions are predetermined
ii. The players start whereever they like

i. Predefined start order
By predefined start order we mean situations where assignments have been made, i.e. the players must start where told. The recommended procedure is that the scoring program writes the start order to the database and that the alternative Ask players for player ID (in Game Settings) is disabled (unticked).

You can, however, let the players enter their player IDs at start, cf. the headline below, if your scoring program does not write the start order to the database.

You will be warned if you forget to untick the Ask players for player ID option. You need to change in the Game Settings dialog (opened via the Game Settings menu) if this would happen.

ii. Unknown start order
We recommend that you ask the players to enter their IDs when they start wherever they like. The point is that their entries will then be immediately validated, provided that the names are available in the BridgeTab system. Note that this will be the case even if your scoring program does not handle names. c.f. the next headline.

SOURCE OF NAMES
Player names can be loaded into the BridgeTab in three ways:

i. From a text file in the BSC
ii. Via the TD menu in the BridgeTabs and/or
iii. Via the database that the scoring software creates.

We recommend that the scoring software writes the club´s members names to the database that it creates for the current event; and that all potential players are imported to the BridgeTabs; or at least into the control software.

Entries in the database belonging to the current event will be given priority, if the same ID would be found in more than one source.

Names.txt file
See Import names if your scoring program does not generate a names.txt file in the BridgeScorer folder automatically.

SEARCH, SORT & CHANGE
Search, sorting and changing entries can be done in the Display player names (Ctrl + N) dialog that you find under FILE, c.f. separate page.
